A Modernist AproachBirds Eye View Until 22 March 2009 DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery Kabir Hussain (Chelsea, 1984) exhibits a series of sculptures that explore themes of modernist architecture. His sculptures recreate the depths of illusion that can be found in painting, allowing the viewer to get lost in their surfaces. Also this month Sohrab Crews’ (Chelsea, 2001) solo exhibition, Ego Grave, features multidisciplinary practice and explores the notions of order, chaos, colour and intensity.

A Feminist FeelingHard/Soft 6 March - 5 April 2009 The National Arts Club This exhibition is part of a three part Pop Icons Series taking place at The National Arts Club where guest curators from the world of fashion, music and film are invited to explore these disciplines in relation to contemporary art. This part of the series concentrates on female perspectives and will feature Francesca Lowe (Byam Shaw, 1998) alongside Tracey Emin and E.V. Day. |

Strike a PoseVeronica Fragomeni (LCF, 2006) worked closely with her father in his leather business in Tuscany and after graduating from LCF she has gone on to have her shoes featured in magazines such as Marie Claire and In Style. Last month her shoes were featured on the front page of Vogue in Brazil. Stephanie Moran (LCF, 2003) curates Drawing (s) with Dolphins with fellow alumnus Marcus Cope (Chelsea, 2006) in Stoke Newington. LCF @ Carnaby shows highlights from the graduating collection at the Mall Galleries and will include work from Una Burke (LCF, 2009) and Angela Platt (LCF, 2009). |
Wild LandscapesComing and Going 2 12 March - 4 April 2009 Curwen & New Academy Gallery Sophie Razvi (Byam Shaw, 1996) has spent much of her time in Iceland since graduating. Drawing on her experiences there she has created this solo exhibition of paintings that tries to capture a sense of the country's rough terrain. Having completed a successful first series of the BBC's Lark Rise to Candleford, John Dagliesh (Drama Centre London, Group) will appear again as the character Alf Arless. |

University CollectionAntlers (2008) This work utilises a snapshot image 'found' from a publicly accessible photo sharing site, of an unknown character. Typical of everyday snapshot photography, the character adopts a humorous pose, while the vivid colours and cheerful persona betray a darker narrative. The artist, Jamie Taylor (Wimbledon, 2008), studied MA Fine Art. |
The Annual FundArt of Giving The money raised last year has made a real impact on our current students, with money being used to fund talks with creative industry leaders at CSM and LCF; new technology at Chelsea, Camberwell and Wimbledon; and display cases for student work at LCC. |
