Wimbledon
Further to confirmation of HEFCE funding, University of the Arts London is delighted to announce that Wimbledon School of Art will be joining the University from 1 August 2006. From this date, Wimbledon will be known as Wimbledon College of Art.

This promises much for University of the Arts London and Wimbledon. We look forward to welcoming all Wimbledon students, staff and alumni to the University.

All the awards...
CSM alumni Alec East and Steve Flanagan with their company Tomorrow London created and controlled graphic-sequences for The Constant Gardener. The film received 10 BAFTA nominations, and won one for Best Edit, and 4 Oscar nominations in this year's awards. They have also just finished working with Anthony Minghella on his hotly-anticipated new film Breaking and Entering.

All the world's Drama Centre's stage
Drama Centre alumni have been lighting up stage and screen across the UK: Polly Walker is up for a Golden Globe for her part in BBC2's epic Rome, and was featured in ES magazine last month; Tom Hardy received extenstive coverage in the Sunday Times Culture Magazine - he and features in Stephen Poliakoff's new play Gideon's Daughter, and played Dudley in The Virgin Queen, alongside fellow alumna Anne Marie Duff as Elizabeth. Also, Polly Kemp recently starred in The Thick of It, the BBC’s New Labour satire Read more

CSM Sees the Stars
Legendary designer of BIBA, Barbara Hulanicki came to Central Saint Martins for a talk with BA Fashion students in February. The event was proposed by French magazine BIBA, who are working on a book celebrating 20 years of BIBA style. Also, Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz’s visit to London included time out to visit CSM. Also, Vogue Editor Anna Wintour had a private viewing of recent MA Fashion Graduate Christopher Kane's work during London Fashion Week, and who has now been offered a job at Versace.

Up and coming in downtown LA
Chelsea alumnus Graham Hudson has been successful in getting a residency in LA at Raid Projects, an up and coming artists community east of downtown. This will follow on from his current Henry Moore Foundation-funded residency at Chelsea. He follows in the footsteps of other notable artists such as Chelsea alumna Gillian Wearing and Chelsea tutor Jo Bruton.

Design Against Crime wins two awards
The 2006 Sir Misha Black Award For Innovation In Design Education was awarded to DAC in recognition of their achievements in the theory and practice of Design Education in the UK.

Dr Lorraine Gamman has also recently been awarded a Silver Medal Award in the Higher Education & Learning Institutes category of the British Female Inventors & Innovators Network Awards. The award recognises her role as a creative catalyst within Design Against Crime. DAC were one of 4 shortlisted nominees in their category which included the ‘Innovation in the Engine Room’ initiative at Wimbledon School of Art.

LCC alumnus Emilio Cid has designed two posters for the Metropolitan Police that have also been translated to three languages. They are part of a major campaign against Human Trafficking and will be displayed in major ports, and Victoria Coach Station.

Danish audio-visual electronics company Bang & Olufsen celebrates it’s 80th birthday this year. Much of it’s recent success is attirbuted to its chief designer, David Lewis, who joined the company after studying at the Central School of Art.

Time Out's review of London Fashion Week stakes that five of the most promising newcomers include CSM graduates Aganovich & Yung, Avshalom Gur and Lotta Skeletrix. Commenting on Avshalom's designs, Time Out describe how they "stand out because of their bold voluminous structures inspired by the complex dress of the bedouin tribes in his homeland".

Where have all the Assistants Gone?
In February 2006 Let Them Eat Cake a quarterly fashion magazine for assistants was launched.The magazine is a platform for new talent, who are masked under the temporary role of the assistant to credible photographers, stylists and hair and make-up artists. Editors include CSM alumnae Njide Ugboma, Cheryl Leung, Jennifer Crawford and Sadia Rafique.

Language Centre
Alumni are entitled to a 10% discount on language courses at the Language Centre. Languages include English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese and German at all levels. Beginners Mandarin is also now available. The next starting dates for the 10-week course are 24 April – 30 June and for the 5-week course from 30 May– 30 June.

As well as owning your IP, you can also Share It and use other people's intellectual property to create new works.
Own It have added a new section to the website called Share It which includes some sample Creative Commons licenses, information and factsheets about Creative Commons, plus details of the BBC's Creative Archives, copyleft and open source.

Deskspace available in Creative Studio, Broadway Market, Hackney
The studio is directly opposite London Fields train station, situated in an old warehouse style building with fantastic natural light. The space is based on a long rectangle with two separate studios, a large meeting room, kitchen, sofa area and access to a fully functioning, wood, metal and plastic workshop. The studio is particularly suitable to creatives but any profession is welcome. Desks are £50 per person, per week, which includes everything you need to get going, a large desk with storage, business rates, fast broadband, electricity, and use of all amenities.
