BodyScript

BodyScript is an organisation set up by Aubrey Kurlansky (LCC, 1981) after he met a life model who at 19 suffered severe burns to her legs after falling and knocking herself unconscious in a faulty shower. Her courage and ability to confront her own changed body and to find ways of presenting it without shame inspired Kurlansky to create a series of photographs of the model at her request.

Over a period of time he began photographing life models and then began to invite others to partake. Over a period of time BodyScript evolved as a reaction to the many conversations Kurlansky had with people (mostly female) about the dissatisfaction and shame at their bodies. BodyScript was created to produce art and events that 'celebrate diversity and difference' through the honest and truthful portrayal of Every-Body. As an artist whose subject has been the human body he has always loved the extraordinary way bodies change with time and record, like a map, the passage through life.

In the spirit of BodyScript this is an open project and anyone can participate at whatever level they wish to. You can participate creatively by suggesting new works around the human body and the issues we are committed to addressing. You can bring old works that fit, you can join Aubrey for life-drawing classes, photographic sessions, or just be photographed yourself. You can also help with networking, fund-raising or research - anything in fact that would move the project forward.
