Resource Development Themes

The overall aim of the ALTO project is to build a collection of higher education level OERs in arts subjects for worldwide distribution through the ALTO learning and teaching and through the national UK learning and teaching repository JorumOpen. In sourcing content the project will aim to focus on some key themes related to priorities within the University and to the arts community generally:

• Student transitions. UAL is currently undertaking a project to gather and make available across the institution, resources used in supporting student transition into Higher Education. This is an opportunity for course teams from across UAL to share and build on practice in supporting this student transition period.
• Endangered/minority specialist subjects (e.g. ceramics, metals, glass, conservation, book-binding and printing). These are all areas taught at UAL at present and ones which we have a great investment in preserving, despite economic difficulties. OERs offer a means to capture skills and artefacts from these disciplines.
