Sir John Tusa
Sir John Tusa was appointed Chairman of the Court of Governors in summer 2007, succeeding Will Wyatt, who retired from the post which he had held since 1999. Sir John was Managing Director of the Barbican from 1995-2007, which experienced exceptional growth and success under his leadership. Prior to the Barbican, Sir John enjoyed a distinguished career in broadcasting, as Managing Director of the BBC World Service, as a presenter of Newsnight and as a newsreader on BBC television. He is currently Chairman of the Wigmore Hall Trust and the Chairman of the Clore Leadership Programme.
Sonita Alleyne OBE

Co-founder and Non-executive Director of cross-platform media production company, Somethin' Else which she established in 1991, Sonita is also Chair of national arts charity, Sound and Music. A board member of the BBFC, she sits on the UK Culture Committee for UNESCO. She is a member of the London Skills and Employment Board, Chair of the Radio Sector Skills Council and trustee of the Islington Arts and Media School. She was a non-executive Director at the DCMS 2000-2005 and in 2007 was a member of the DCMS 2012 Culture and Creativity Advisory Group. Sonita won the Carlton Multicultural Achievement Award for TV and Radio in 2002 and is a Fellow of The Royal Society of the Arts and the Radio Academy. She was awarded an OBE for services to broadcasting in November 2003.
Lorraine Baldry

Chairman of the Estates Committee and member of the Chairman's committee. Board Member of the Olympic Delivery Authority and Chairman of its Planning Committee, Chairman of Inventa Partners Ltd and Tri-Air Developments Ltd. Lorraine is a past Chairman of the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation and of Central London Partnership. Previously she was Chief Executive of Chesterton International plc and a senior advisor to Morgan Stanley. Lorraine is a Freeman of the Company of Information Technologists, a Fellow of the RSA and an Honorary Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. She is a patron of the City of London Sinfonia and the Almeida Theatre.
Jamie Bill

Director of Condé Nast and publisher of GQ, Jamie previously studied Law and spent six years in the army before joining Associated Newspapers as a trainee. His first job on a glossy magazine was with Harpers & Queen. He then moved to New York where he worked on both Town & Country and Harpers Bazaar. He returned as one of the launch publishers of Country Living and launched Esquire Magazine. Jamie was subsequently publisher of Harpers & Queen for six years, as well as being a Director of NatMags. He joined Condé Nast UK in 2000 as Publisher of Condé Nast Traveller, before taking over at GQ in 2003.
Nigel Carrington

Nigel Carrington is the Rector of University of the Arts London. Before joining the University in September 2008, Nigel's career was in the private sector, including 21 years with Baker & McKenzie, the international law firm, where he was Managing Partner of the London Office and Chairman of the Firm's European Region, and 7 years with the McLaren Group where he was Managing Director and Deputy Chairman. He studied History of Art at the Courtauld Institute between 2005-2007 and holds a number of non-executive positions in the public, private and charitable sectors, including as Chairman of The English Concert, the internationally-renowned chamber orchestra.
Professor Sir Ivor Crewe

Master of University College Oxford from August 2008. Vice-Chancellor of the University of Essex 1995-2007. Sir Ivor was appointed to the Department of Government at the University of Essex in 1971, becoming Head of Department (1984-1988) and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Academic (1992-1995). He has written and broadcast on British politics, in particular on elections, parties and public opinions. He directed the British Election Study (1973-1981) and edited the British Journal of Political Science (1977-1982 and 1984-1992). He has been actively involved in higher education at a national level and was President of UniversitiesUK 2003-2005. He is a member of a number of boards, including those of the European University Institute in Florence, the School of Oriental and African Studies, the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and the Higher Educational Policy Institute.
John Duffin

GMB, Health and Safety and Union Learning Representative for University of the Arts London, based at Camberwell College of Arts. John is a painter and printmaker whose work is in many private and public collections, including the University's. He is a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in London.
Ekow Eshun

Ekow Eshun is the Artistic Director of the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA). He is Chairman of the Fourth Plinth Commissioning Group for Trafalgar Square and sits on the National Council of the Arts Council England. He is a governor of University of the Arts, London and of the London School of Economics and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. A leading writer and cultural commentator, he appears regularly on BBC 2's Newsnight Review and is a contributor to publications including The Guardian, The Observer and Vogue. He worked as Assistant Editor of Face magazine before becoming the youngest ever editor of a men's magazine at Arena. Ekow's first book, 'Black Gold of the Sun', was published in 2005.
Ben Evans

Director of the London Design Festival, which he co-founded with Sir John Sorrell in 2002. Prior to this Ben was a partner and creative director of LIVE, a branding and marketing business that he co-founded. He has lectured extensively at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art. Previously he was the Content Editor at the Millennium Dome and worked as a speech writer for heads of cultural organisations and politicians as well as organising election campaign visits for both Neil Kinnock and Tony Blair in the 1992 and 1997 elections. He also worked closely with film producer, Lord Puttnam, on cultural policy and helped create the blueprint for the newly structured Design Council in 1994. He has been a trustee of Artangel since 1997 and was a trustee of the Roundhouse until 2004.
Clara Freeman, OBE

Deputy Chairman of the Court of Governors and Chairman of the University's Personnel Committee. Clara was formerly Director of Stores and Personnel at Marks and Spencer plc, where she was the first woman appointed to the executive board in the history of the Company. She is currently Deputy Chairman of Roffey Park Management Institute and a member of Council at the Girls Day School Trust. She is an honorary fellow of Somerville College Oxford and was awarded the OBE for services to Women in the Workforce in 2001.
Sir David Green

Director-General of the British Council (1999 - 2007), the UK's leading cultural relations organisation operating in over 100 countries. Previously, he was Director of Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). In the early 1970s he taught in two comprehensive schools in South Yorkshire before becoming Director of Children's Relief International which he subsequently merged with Save the Children Fund. He is the Chairman of Dartington Hall Trust and the Prince's School of Traditional Arts and a member of the board of the Royal Court Theatre. He has a particular interest in theatre and the visual arts.
Anya Hindmarch

Anya Hindmarch started her business at the age of 19 following her passion for accessories and design. The business has grown to fifty four shops worldwide, including two London flagships on Sloane Street and Bond Street. 2007 saw the launch of I'm Not A Plastic Bag in collaboration with the global social change movement We Are What We Do. In 2009, Anya Hindmarch was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition for her contribution to the British fashion industry. Anya has launched Anya Hindmarch Bespoke and collaborated with Barbour on a new collection to launch in autumn winter 2010. Anya Hindmarch bags continue to be celebrity favourites, worn by everyone from Reese Witherspoon and Angelina Jolie to Anne Hathaway and Sienna Miller.
Brent Hoberman

Brent most recently co-founded the PROfounders Capital - an early stage fund backed by entrepreneurs for digital entrepreneurs. He is also Executive Chairman and founded VC-backed internet based startup, mydeco.com. Prior to mydeco, Brent co-founded lastminute.com in April 1998 with Martha Lane Fox, eventually taking the company to profit and gross bookings of over $2bn. Brent is a non-executive board director of Guardian Media Group and is an angel investor in several internet companies including Viagogo, Wayn.com, erepublik.com and imagini.net. He also organises the European Founders Forum - a brainstorming event for Europe's digital entrepreneurs. Brent is currently one of the Young Global Leaders of the Davos World Economic Forum and a member of the Business Council for Britain. He holds an MA in French and German literature from Oxford.

David Lindsell

David Lindsell is a non-executive director and the chair of the audit committees of Drax Group plc and Premier Oil plc, and is Deputy Chair of the Financial Reporting Review Panel. He was a partner at Ernst & Young for nearly 30 years and was a member of the firm’s board for 15 years and chaired its audit committee from 2001 until his retirement from the firm at the end of 2007. At Ernst & Young David served as the lead audit partner for a number of FTSE 100 companies. He was a trustee of the British Museum for nine years until 2008 and continues to serve on several of its trustee committees, and was a governor and member of the board standing committee of St Albans School for many years. David has served on a number of professional bodies relating to the accounting profession including the IFRS Advisory Council, the board of the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG), the Auditing Practices Board for the UK and Ireland and the Turnbull Committee.
Professor Vladimir Mirodan Dip.Dir., MA, PhD, DGGB, FRSA

Professor of Theatre, Principal of Drama Centre London and Director of College Development at Central Saint Martins. Trained on the Directors' Course at the Drama Centre, Vladimir Mirodan has directed over 50 productions in this country as well as internationally. He holds an MA and a PhD from Royal Holloway, University of London - his PhD thesis was concerned with The Laban-Malmgren System of Character Analysis, the core subject around which all courses at the Drama Centre evolved. He has taught and directed in most leading drama schools in the UK and was, in turn, Director of the School of Performance at Rose Bruford College and Vice-Principal and Director of Drama at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He has been Principal of Drama Centre London since 2001. In 2010 he was seconded to the role of Director of College Development at CSM, leading on the implementation of the College's restructuring in anticipation of its move to King's Cross. Vladimir Mirodan served for many years as Vice Chair of the Directors Guild of Great Britain; on the Drama Committee of the Scottish Arts Council and on the Board of the Citizens' Theatre. He was a member of the independent Working Party charged by the Scottish Executive with creating the blueprint for the Scottish National Theatre. For the six years to October 2006 he was Chairman of the Conference of Drama Schools and a Deputy Chair of the National Council for Drama Training. He is a Trustee of the Directors Guild Trust.
John Parmiter

Member of the University's Estates Committee; a Chair of Court Appeal Hearings; former Governor of Wimbledon School of Art. John is a Partner of Roger Tym & Partners, planners and economists. He was a partner at property firm Hillier Parker (now part of CBRE), then Chairman of the board of Turley Associates, before running his own planning and development consultancy until last year. John is an Accredited Mediator and a founding panel member of the RICS Planning Mediation Panel.
Zarin Patel

Chief Financial Officer, BBC. Zarin joined the BBC in 1998 as Group Financial Controller, later becoming Head of Revenue Management (leading the BBC's TV Licensing Operation) in 2001. During her time in that role she was awarded 'Client Marketer of the Year' by Precision Marketing magazine in recognition of her achievements in spearheading the TV Licensing Marketing strategy. Zarin was appointed to her current role in 2004, and is a member of the BBC's Executive Board.
Grayson Perry

Best known for winning the Turner Prize in 2003, Grayson Perry has exhibited his ceramics, sculptures, prints and textiles widely for 25 years. Recent shows have included The Charms of Lincolnshire a show working with a collection of social history artefacts, My Civilisation a large survey of his work shown in The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan and Mudam, Luxembourg and Unpopular Culture a touring show curated from the Arts Council collection. He has also written a weekly arts column for the Times and made television documentaries such as Why Men wear Frocks and crops up on television and radio in programmes such as Late Review, Thinking Allowed and Have I Got News for You.
Elizabeth Reid

Chairman of the University's Finance Committee and Chief Executive of the Specialist Schools Trust. Elizabeth was formerly Deputy Provost of the London Guildhall University and Director of Education, successively in Lothian, Edinburgh and Hackney. She is a board member of the Enterprise Education Trust, City and Islington College and The Fashion Retail Academy.
Charles Saumarez Smith, CBE

Charles Saumarez Smith has been Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy since 2007 and was previously Director of the National Gallery. Charles was a Fellow at Harvard and Christie's Research Fellow in the History of Applied Arts at Christ's College, Cambridge. In 1982, he joined the staff of the Victoria & Albert Museum as an Assistant Keeper and in 1990, was appointed Head of Research, a position he held for four years. From 1994-2002, Charles was Director of the National Portrait Gallery.
Sim Scavazza
Sim’s professional career spans 20 years working in Buying and Merchandising and Buying management for some of the UK’s most successful young women’s fashion retailers including River Island, Next and French Connection. In 2000 she joined Miss Selfridge, the Arcadia Group, as Head of Buying and was subsequently promoted to Brand Director in 2002 when Philip Green bought the group. Sim was included in the top 100 most influential people in High Street fashion in 2005 by Drapers Record.
Sim became a non executive Director and shareholder of Adili.com, an on-line ethical retailer in February 2007 and was made part-time executive Creative Director in October 2007 as part of the team that launched Adili onto AIM. Sim drove the brand strategy and worked to establish Adili as a global ethical lifestyle brand, sponsoring the Fashioning the Future Award in conjunction with the centre for sustainable fashion at the LCF in 2008.
Currently working as a Creative consultant, Sim helps global retail businesses in areas such as product development, sourcing, brand positioning and marketing.
Sim became a Trustee for the charity, Mentor UK in 2005(protecting children and young people from the harm that alcohol and drugs cause) and was voted in to Chair the Board in March 2007 .The charity has extended its reach and doubled its turnover during this time.
Helen Scott Lidgett

Helen co-founded Brunswick Arts in December 2001 and is now Managing and Founding Partner. She was previously Head of Marketing and Public Relations at Thames & Hudson Publishing for ten years, following earlier careers as a teacher, designer and a journalist. She is an alumna of St Martins School of Art (Fine Art), a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Trustee of PiggyBankKids (the children's charity), of Camden Arts Centre, and of The Arts Foundation, has been awarded Chevalier dans l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Helen works with the British Museum and Royal Academy of the Arts, amongst other major institutions.
Dr Shân Wareing

Dean of Learning and Teaching Development and head of the Centre for Learning and Teaching in Art and Design. Shân has a degree in English Language and Linguistics and a PhD in Sociolinguistics and has worked in higher education for 20 years. She is a Fellow of and has been Co-Chair of the national Staff and Educational Development Association. She undertakes evaluations on behalf of the Higher Education Academy and has been an external examiner of higher education teacher training qualifications in five universities. She has a half blue in rowing from Oxford University and still rows competitively.
Ben Westhead

After studying a foundation degree in Art and Design at Manchester Metropolitan University, Benjamin progressed onto the BA Fine Art course at Chelsea School of Art and Design. He studied at Chelsea for three years and graduated in summer 2011. In the same year Ben was elected by the students of the University of the Arts London to become a full time student representative. He is passionate about fighting for the rights of students and improving the learning experience for all of those who attend the university.
