Here you will find all the resources you need as a UAL Awarding Body External Moderator.

The External Moderator Handbook and Assessment Policy document advise and inform External Moderators on the systems, timelines and processes that are key for organising how to work and how to support staff in our Centres.

In addition to securing standards through a rigorous and robust process of external moderation, we also ask you to play a role in providing guidance and support by engaging in a professional and sensitive dialogue.

External moderators play a vital role in the work of the Awarding Body. They are often the only Awarding Body representative that some Centre staff will meet, so it is important that they represent the values and ethos of the Awarding Body. We want all our External Moderators to feel valued and supported, so if there's anything you need from us then please let us know.

If you have any questions regarding external moderation, please contact the Quality and Operations team on moderation.awarding@arts.ac.uk on 0207 514 9851.

Important information

Prior to an external moderation, UAL Awarding Body expects External Moderators to be in touch with the Course Leader at the Centre, at a minimum of six weeks prior to the moderation, and before that if possible. Following a moderation visit, we require the external moderator's report and signed grade confirmation no later than 10 working days from the date of the visit.

You will also need to submit an External Examiner Claim form v1.6 to claim for your work and any expenses incurred. This should include itemised, original receipts for expenses and your fee. Subsistence claims cannot include alcohol. Petrol can be claimed at 40p per mile, but we ask that you travel by train where possible. Please arrange this with UAL Awarding Body's Quality and Operations team in advance of the visit: moderation.awarding@arts.ac.uk on 0207 514 9851.

For more information on all of these areas, please see the External Moderator Handbook, which can be found below with all other documents and downloads you will need to help you on the visit. Specifications and handbooks and grade record forms for qualifications can be found in the qualification areas in the left hand menu.
